Fisherman

"You know guys, Halloween is not what it used to be. We ate so much candy my dentist put up crime tape when he saw me coming."

Dan thought for a while before.  "Craig here's the deal, we are too old for trick or treating and too young to drink beer. So what do we do."

"I think trick or treating is a fond memory for all of us," Dawn laughing as she remembered their youthful fun. "But we still have our memories."

The three friends sat on the porch swing at Dawn's house."So what should we do instead of bemoaning our fate."

As he dangles his car keys in front of his two life long buddies, Dan reminds them. "Don't you think getting our driver's licenses tops one night of walking around for hours in the dark."

The three of them sat silently, each recalling the glory days of Halloween.

Suddenly, Dawn rises from her reverie. "Do you two remember that night two years ago we were seriously spooked."

"I know where you're going with this Dawn. Do you remember the night, Craig."

" I wish I could forget it. We must have pole vaulted over each other as we raced to get away from from that dark old barn with the soft eerie music coming from it."

"I remember the music being pretty cool."

Craig continues. "So here we are in the doldrums on Halloween night and interestingly we all recollected the same experience. Let's drive over there."

Dan and Dawn agree. "Let's investigate

The three of them were uncharacteristically silent as the they drove to the  long dark lane leading to the barn, where each of them had felt strange when they heard the faint sound coming from the deserted barn.

Craig leads the band of three. The night is as dark as it was on that night."In a trembling voice. I'll lead us there."

Sure enough as they approach the structure they hear the sound of music just like before. Only this time they don't run. Peeking through a long broken window they don't believe what they see.

Positioned in the middle of the floor is an old gramophone like the ones you see in museums. The sounds coming from the machine were clear like stereophonic sound. It's magic.

Dawn says haltingly. "We came this far let's to go in."

Craig quietly says as if he is trying to believe the words that were coming out of his mouth. "Stick close together."

Joe hesitates but grudgingly agrees. "Yeah, I'll go but I'm not sure this is a good plan."

Holding on to each other tightly, they stealthily creep towards the ancient record player. I'm scared, whispers Joe; so am I mouths Dawn; Craig gestures as no sound will come out of his mouth.

As if they could not be anymore frightened; suddenly three filmy apparitions float towards them. They huddle even closer.

Craig who now has recovered his voice.  It is odd that as they approach I am no longer afraid."

"Yea, me too." are the silent but understood answers.

The three specters explain in one ethereal voice. “There is nothing to fear. We are merely enjoying our one night a year when we can come here and dance  and enjoy music."

Dawn, always inquisitive asks. "Why are you so filmy"

The two boys nod. "Yes, we want to know too."

We were fishing on the lake three years ago and got stuck on an ice flow. We were thrown up on an island by a monster wave. We thawed out very slowly. When we woke up we were covered with millions of butterflies. Their little bodies protected us but we no longer had human bodies; just these filmy things that until tonight everyone who saw us ran away,.

"Oh we're not scared, you guys are cool. Could we dance too?"

It was not long and three friends were dancing and laughing with the apparitions and then the craziest thing happened.

"I can't believe what I see. You three are forming bodies."

"I bet you'll look like your old selves pretty soon."

After much yahooing, it was decided that the three should stay in Joe's tree house for the night.

"In the morning the three friends race to the tree house only to find it empty.

All three were wondering the same.  Did we dream this?

But an article in the newspaper a couple of weeks later. answered their question.

THREE LONG LOST FISHERMEN FOUND SAFE.
